Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on a stage-not-age approach. In Years 7 and 8 this encompasses 'Catch-up and Diagnose (CUD)' strands, which focus on identifying, addressing and filling gaps in foundational learning, with a view to students making intensive learning progress. In Years 9, 10 and 11 students may move to one of our 'Skills for Life (SFL)' strands. SFL learning aims to prepare students for life beyond school, with a curriculum that emphasises real-world and practical skills, underpinned by a continued focus on fundamental numeracy, literacy and personal and social skills. These strands run alongside and compliment our standard and 'Plus' KS3 and KS4 curricula.

All students at GMIS access core curriculum subjects including English, Maths and Science. We offer a range of qualifications, including GCSEs, Functional Skills and BTECs. Alongside core curriculum studies, we are proud to offer a wide and extensive Enrichment curriculum, which includes the Duke of Edinburgh Award and a range of vocational and wellbeing activities.
